elbtech Wins the Health-X Innovation Competition
European Health Data Space: The Starting Signal for Innovation
On May 2, 2022, the European Commission published the regulation for the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The initiative aims to simplify access to health data across the EU while preserving privacy. We seized the opportunity to contribute our idea to this development and successfully applied for Health-X innovation funding. As part of the Gaia-X lighthouse project Health-X dataLOFT, we are now working alongside 14 partners on a citizen-centered, federated data space for the future.
Our Concept: AI in Healthcare with Full Data Protection
Our concept focuses on integrating AI into healthcare while maintaining full compliance with data protection requirements. Traditional AI development often relies on centralized data processing models that create substantial privacy and security risks. Our approach breaks with that pattern by using a decentralized structure in which data remains with the participating institutions. This protects patient privacy while still enabling valuable insights from a broad and diverse data set.
Success at the Health-X Innovation Forum in Berlin on May 23, 2024
We presented our idea, together with other selected finalists, at the Health-X Innovation Forum in Berlin. The event focused entirely on innovative concepts for the European health data space. We are very pleased that we qualified for the first funding phase.
Funding Phases and Our Next Steps
The award is granted in two phases. In the first phase, projects receive 25,000 EUR administered by Freie Universitaet Berlin, and in the second phase 50,000 EUR administered by Charite Universitaetsmedizin Berlin. During the first phase, we will spend the next three months shaping our idea into a prototype for the Health-X Data Loft.
Together Toward a Promising Future
The exchange and expertise within the Health-X dataLOFT consortium, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, are extremely valuable to us. The consortium includes 14 partners, among them renowned institutions such as Charite Universitaetsmedizin Berlin, Fraunhofer ISST, Fraunhofer MEVIS, the Hasso Plattner Institute, Siemens Healthineers, OFFIS, Freie Universitaet Berlin, and the Bundesdruckerei Group.
We are looking forward to the collaboration and, of course, to actively shaping the future of healthcare. Working on similar topics? Feel free to reach out at moin@elbtech.dev.
